Pike Tykes
Pike Tykes is a developmental program for swimmers, ages 5-8, to work on the fundamentals of freestyle and backstroke and who can swim the length of the pool but aren't ready for swim meets. It is not a "swim lesson" for those who do not yet know how to swim, but swim lessons are offered at Old Pike.
Once the swimmer, parent, and coach agree the swimmer is ready to try a meet, they may enter meets just like the regular swim team members. Our goal is to have Tykes swim in a meet or two before the end of the season.
Group size is limited. We anticipate this group practicing from 10:30-11:15, M-Th during the season.
Swimmers will be evaluated the first week of practice. If it is determined that a swimmer is not ready to participate, the registration will be refunded and the spot will be given to someone on the waitlist. Similarly, if a swimmer exceeds the expectations for Pike Tykes, the coaches may recommend movement to the 8 & Under age group.
Registration fees for this program will be the same as for regular summer swimmers. Registration refunds are not guaranteed due to team fee obligations to USA Swimming and the NSC. As a result, any possible refunds may be partial and must occur before June 15th.
Please note, our entire swim program will develop swimmers of all ages. Inexperienced swimmers ages 9 and up should sign up for the regular swim team in their respective age group.
